Nagpur, Aug 24 (UNI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil today called on noted social worker and Magsaysay Award winner Baba Amte at a local hospital, where he is undergoing treatment, and enquired about his health.

Mr Patil flew from Mumbai to Nagpur and drove straight from the airport to the hospital and spent a few minutes with him.

Meanwhile, doctors attending on Mr Amte said his condition was ''clinically stable'' and he required further hospitalisation for a week.

''The reports of bonemarrow aspiration cytology show that he is suffering from Myelodisplastic Syndrome,'' the doctors said Meanwhile, a statement issued from the hospital here said, Mr Amte would need lifelong treatment in the form of antibiotics and blood transfusions.

The 93-year old Mr Amte was brought here from Warora in Chandrapur district last week after his hemoglobin and platelets decreased to 6.8 and 14,000 respectively.

This was due to bleeding through a catheter that Mr Amte had recently been fitted with due to an enlarged prostrate.
