Hyson flavoured tea to hit Indian market

Bangalore, Aug 24: Hyson Tea of Sri Lanka, the sixth biggest exporter of quality Ceylon tea from the emerald isles, will enter the Indian market tomorrow with its wide range black and green tea in 12 different flavours.

City-based Lekkad exports, merchant exporters of spices and ready to eat foods have tied-up with Hyson Teas to import its tea products and distribute in the Indian market.

Hyson Teas produce a wide range of value added tea products to comply with every taste, culture, mood and moment.

"We will be entering the niche markets like Bangalore and other major cities in India where we see a very good market for our flavoured teas the products that is a result of many years of international tea tasting, blending, grading and trading experience of our tea professionals," Hyson Teas Marketing Manager Sahampathy Dissanayake told sources.

He said the company was releasing ten black and two green tea varieties flavoured in apple, cherry, peach, straberry, red and black currant, wild yello mango, organge, grey, strawberry, lemon and wild raspberry varieties.

Hyson teas comes in diverse forms of packets, tea bags, metal tins, gift items, canisters containing a variety of black and green teas ranging from regular, flavoured, fruit, specialty blends, herbal, cocktail, liquor teas that are packaged in vibrantly colourful packs," Mr Dissanayake added.

Hyson Teas, a subsidiary of Empire Teas of Sri Lanka is the sixth biggest exporter of tea in the island country and it exports its products to 28 country with the newest addition being India. CIS countries, mainly Russia, remains its biggest market, followed by Middle Eastern countries, Turkey and Iran.

Sri Lanka exports 300 million kgs of tea every year out of its total production of 310 million kgs.

Lekkad MD Mallikarjun Lekkad said, "We see high potential for our flavoured teas in big cities and we would first penetrate into shopping malls, departmental stores, star hotels and multinational companies. "Later we will be pushing items in the range of gift products," he said.
