HC directs DM to settle matter of voting rights to Bangladeshis

Allahabad, Aug 24 (UNI) Allahabad High Court has directed the district electoral officer/district magistrate, Pilibhit to decide the matter of voting rights to those, who had migrated to Pilibhit before the formation of Bangladesh.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice H L Gokhale and Justice R K Agrawal passed the order on a PIL, filed by Maneka Gandhi, Member of Parliament.

The petitioner had alleged that these migrated people had acquired citizenship, but they had not been given voting rights.
