GCMMF members plant 18 lakh saplings on I-Day

Anand, Gujarat, Aug 24 (UNI) Member unions of the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) planted 18 lakh saplings across 19 districts on August 15 celebrating the 60th anniversary of Indian independence.

The entire campaign was co-ordinated by around 12,600 village dairy co-operative societies of 13 district unions of GCMMF. Planning for the event began during February 2007, stated a release.

A striking feature of this entire programme is that it has been initiated by milk producer farmer members of the dairy co-operatives. Each member has taken an oath to plant a sapling and ensure that it grows into a tree. It plans to conduct such events on every successive I-Day, the release added.
