Jammu, Aug 24: The Army, in conjunction with the Indian Railways, has set up the first unreserved ticketing system (UTS) counter at the Jammu Tawi Railway Station here as a step towards providing ''quality of life and extra facilities'' to troops in Jammu and Kashmir.

Major General Sanjeev Loomba, General Officer Commanding, Tiger Division, inaugurated the UTS counter at DD parking area, Jammu Tawi Railway Station yesterday.

The setting-up of the UTS would go a long way in helping jawans who come from far flung areas of Poonch, Doda and remote parts of the valley to get their warrants exchanged even at the last minute prior to the departure of the train.

'' Despite all efforts of the Army to ensure that every jawan gets reservation done well in time, few jawans have to move at short notice due to emergencies at home. Presently, they have to stand in long queues at railway platforms to exchange their warrants.

''Since the UTS will be linked with current reservation, the jawans will be able to get their reservations done moments before the departure of their train subject to the availability of seats,'' Defence spokesman Lt Col S D Goswami said.
