New Delhi, Aug 24 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said a pilot project of Hospital Management Information System would be undertaken in a city hospital, which would pave way for the computerisation of the hospital records.

Addressing reporters after chairing a high level meeting to discuss problems in the city's Government hospitals, Ms Dikshit said her Government was committed to ensure better level of satisfaction to patients in the Government hospitals apart from providing useful information to large number of visiting patients by installing uniform and proper signages at all strategic points in hospitals to curb disorder and confusion due to lack of information regarding location and availability of services.

Stressing the need for proper maintenance, timely repair and cleanliness in hospitals, Ms Dikshit gave an approval for placing Rs 5 lakh at the disposal of Medical Superintendents for minor repairs and maintenance during a financial year.

At the meeting, attended by State Health Minister Yoganand Shastri, Principle Secretaries of Health, Finance and PWD, Engineer-in-Chief of PWD and Medical Superintendents of major hospitals under the Delhi Government, Ms Dikshit directed senior officers of PWD to chalk out an effective 'action plan' for the implementation of decisions relating to minor repairs and maintenance, which would go a long way in giving better look to the hospitals.

Pointing out that Delhi Hospitals are not only catering to a large number of patients from the capital, but also from neighbouring States, Ms Dikshit said it is essential to have better managed hospitals, adding that 30 per cent patients rush to Delhi Hospitals for immediate treatment.

She stressed the need for installation of proper and uniform signages in hospitals which may provide information relating to location and availability of services to visiting patients.

A decision to give better look to OPD blocks and make provisions of benches for visiting patients and their attendants was taken at the meeting, apart from the deployment of volunteers for providing assistance to the patients as well as deploying eminent citizens as visitors in the hospitals.

Ms Dikshit said patients have a right to know about availability of medicines in the hospital and therefore, information would be published in the form of a brochure.

It was also decided in the meeting to set up Bio-Medical Engineering Departments in big hospitals having 500 and more beds to ensure better maintenance of equipment which were generally found defective causing inconvenience to the patients.
