BKU 'maha panchayat' at Delhi over Punjab farmers' demand
Fatehgarh Sahib, Aug 24 (UNI) Punjab Mandi Board Chairman and Bharatiya Kisan Union (Lakhowal) president Ajmer Singh Lakhowal today said that BKU will hold 'Maha Panchyat' on September 12 at New Delhi to press the Centre to accept the genuine demands of farmers of Punjab.
Talking to media persons here after the election of Fatehgarh Sahib unit of his union, Mr Lakhowal said that his union would not tolerate any injustice to farmers of Punjab.
He said that MSP of crop should be linked with Price Index and under this system presently MSP of wheat should be Rs 1,140 and paddy of Rs 865.
He said that if the government accepted their genuine demands, the farmers were ready to pay power bill in agriculture sector.
Criticising the acquiring of Farmers' land at throw-away prices by some state governments, Mr Lakhowal said that Punjab government had decided that if land was acquired for mega projects then farmers would be given 30 per cent more than market value of the land.
