BJP urges CM to observe Hyderabad Liberation day

Hyderabad, Aug 24 (UNI) Taking a cue from Maharashtra and Karnataka, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Andhra Pradesh today asked the state government to officially celebrate from this year the liberation of Hyderabad from the 'tyrannical' Nizam's Rule and its merger with Indian Union on September 27, 1948.

A delegation of BJP leaders, led by State President Bandaru Dattatreya, today called on Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and urged the Congress Government to officially celebrate the day.

The Karnataka Government earmarked Rs two lakh every year for ''Hyderabad-Karnataka Liberation day'' in the districts of Gulbarga, Bidar, Raichur and Koppal, while the Maharashtra Government had passed a resolution in May 2001 to observe September 17 as ''Marathwada Mukti Sangram Din,'' in the region which once formed part of the Nizam State, the BJP leaders told the Chief Minister.
