BJP MPs urge Minister to ensure telecast of Janmashtami programmes

Ahmedabad, Aug 24 (UNI) Members of BJP Parliamentary Group from Gujarat have urged Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi to restart the broadcast of ''Janmashtami'' programmes on Doordarshan and All India Radio.

Three Lok Sabha members -- P S Gadhavi, Bhupendrasinh Solanki and Mansukh D Vasava -- and Rajya Sabha member Jayantilal Barot said that cultural programmes regarding Hindu festivals had always been broadcast on AIR and telecast on Doordarshan.

''However, we are shocked to notice that last year, the programmes of Shri Krishna Janma at Dwarka, Dakor and Jagannathpuri was not aired by AIR and Doordarshan,'' they said.

''We, therefore, request your personal intervention to give necessary directives to the authorities to telecast and air the Janmashtami programmes this year without fail in view of the sentiments of Hindus,'' they added.
