Army expedition to Leo Pargial peak flagged off
Chandigarh, Aug 24 (UNI) To commemorate the diamond jubilee of the Western Command, which completes 60 years of its raising on September 15 this year, a mountaineering expedition has been launched for Leo Pargial peak at a height of 6673 meters somewhere in Pooh sector.
The expedition was flagged off by the Commander, Sugar Sector, Pooh, yesterday. The Leo Pargial lies in Kinnaur district and is the highest peak in Himachal Pradesh.
The team, led by Maj Anil Manhas of Dogra scouts, comprises three officers and 23 men. It will commence the climb to Leo Pargial from Nako village which lies at 13,000 feet at the base of the peak. The team is scheduled to summit the peak on September one. Leo Pargial is a mountaineer's delight and poses a challenge to climbers. Due to the receding snow line in the recent years, the climb has become tougher.
