200 militants entered Jammu from LoC in last six months: Army
Jammu, Aug 24 (UNI) At least 200 ultras have managed to infiltrate into this region of Jammu and Kashmir in the last six months as there is no let-up in infiltration bids from across the Line of Control (LoC), according to the Army.
As per intelligence inputs, nearly 50 militant training camps are operational on the other side of the LoC, including some Northern areas of Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK), Lt Gen T K Sapru, General Officer Commanding, XVI 'White Kinght' Corps, was quoted by the Daily Excelsior today.
''Among several militant outfits operating on this part of the region, the Hizb-ul Mujahideen (HM) is the dominant 'tanzeem' with nearly 390-400 ultras, including locals.
''There is no perceptible change in infiltration into this side from across the LoC. About 200 militants have reportedly managed to cross over to this side in the past six months,'' Lt Gen Sapru said.
Although an adequate number of troops are deployed and naka points established to plug infiltration, but despite fencing there are certain gaps in riversides along the LoC, he said.
He added that a more comprehensive picture could only emerge after analysis on a large time span is carried out.
In the recent past, armed ultras managed to breach the LoC fence on certain occasions, especially in Mendhar and Poonch areas, taking advantage of weather and hostile conditions.
On human rights (HR) violations, the Corps Commander said the Army was extremely sensitive to any breach of discipline and HR violations and its track record in taking action against erring soldiers has been exemplary.
''Over 89 people have been punished for cases proved true against them in the state so far,'' he informed.
