Songs,dance welcome Shinzo Abe at Tagore House

Kolkata, Aug 23 (UNI) Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited the ancestral house of Rabindranath Tagore at Jorasanko here today and paid tributes to the Nobel Laureate poet and thinker.

Rendering songs and dance, Mr. Abe was given a warm welcome as students of Rabindra Bharati University lined up both sides of the way leading to the historic building.

Mr. Abe, who was in Tagore's house for about 25 minutes, paid floral tributes to the great poet in the room where he was born and died.

He was taken round the gallery, "Jorasanko, Tagore house and Japan," where Tagore's paintings during his visit to Japan were on display.

He also visited the 'Bichitra Bhavan', a section of the house and signed the visitor's book.

Rabindra Bharati University officials gifted Mr. Abe a mural of Tagore's painting.
