Rs 14 crore being spent on tribal hostels: CM

Shimla, Aug 23 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbadhra Singh today said the state government was spending Rs 14.31 crore on the construction of 16 tribal hostels for boys and girls all over the state.

Addressing the Kinnaur Students Welfare Association at Himachal Pradesh University here, the chief minister said his government was committed towards the speedy uplift of the tribals and development of the tribal areas at faster pace and help them out of the difficult conditions they were subjected to.

Chief Minister said the work had been completed in 10 of the tribal hostels while in six others it was in various stages of completion.

Mr Singh said the tribal hostels at HP University, Government Degree Colleges at Kukumseri, in Lahaul and Spiti district, Solan, Dharamshala had been dedicated to the tribal boys while work on two such hostels at Chamba and Reckong Peo was in progress and likely to be completed in the near future.

He said similarly tribal hostels had been dedicated to the tribal girls at HP University, RKMV, Shimla, government degree colleges at Kukumseri in Lahaul and Spiti district, Reckong Peo, Dharamshala, Shamshi in Kullu, and Solan while the construction work was in progress at CSK Agriculture University, Palampur and Sarkang School, Tabo in Spiti valley.

About 1200 tribal girls and boys were being benefited by the tribal hostel facilities and were able to follow their academic pursuits more conveniently, he added.
