Monsoon rain lashes isolated areas in north-west region

Chandigarh, Aug 23 (UNI) Monsoon rain lashed isolated places in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh since last night, providing respite from hot and humid weather conditions in the region.

In Punjab, heavy rain pounded Nangal Dam site, turning it the wettest place in the state, recording 85.8 mm downpour overnight.

Balachour measured 7.1 mm while Madopur, near Pathankot, registered 5.0 mm rainfall.

Rains also pounded some areas in Haryana with Hisar recording 6.2 mm and Nelokheri 2.5 mm till this morning. Rohtak reported trace rainfall.

Light to moderate rain lashed many areas in Himachal Pradesh, including Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Bilaspur and Shimla districts. Kasol was the wettest place in the state, recording 48.3 mm rain till this morning while Berthin registered 19.8 mm and Kahu 14.5 mm rainfall.

Sundernagar, Suni and Una also experienced rainfall.

Shimla and its adjoining areas were also lashed by rain and the capital town recorded 0.6 mm rainfall overnight. Upper areas of Shimla district, including tourist places of Wildflower Hall, Kufri, Naldehra and Narkanda, also had rain.

Chandigarh and its adjoining areas experienced partially cloudy weather with the Sun playing hide and seek during the day. However, humid conditions prevailed with higher levels of humidity recorded in the city. The maximum humidity in Chandigarh was recorded at 89 per cent and the minimum at 58 per cent.

The Met Office predicted moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers at most places in Himachal Pradesh, many places in Punjab and few places in Haryana during the next 24 hours. It warned of heavy to very heavy rain at few places in Himachal Pradesh and isolated places in Punjab during the next 48 hours.
