Agartala, Aug 23 (UNI) The Tripura government has appreciated the role of the caretaker government in Bangladesh in reducing the hideouts of militants from 55 to 26.

Addressing the students of the first degree college in Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council here today, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said the militants were facing a resource crunch due to the pressure from the Bangladesh government.

Besides stringent administrative action, the development activities in tribal areas had also played a significant role in motivating the misguided indigenous youth to surrender. Therefore, the state had witnessed a huge number of surrenders in the recent months, Mr Sarkar claimed.

Official records stated that about 284 hardcore militants had surrendered so far in Tripura.
