LIC to replicate 'Bhagyalakshmi' scheme in other states
Hyderabad, Aug 23 (UNI) Buoyed by the success of 'Bhagyalakshmi' insurance scheme for girl child launched in collaboration with the Karnataka Government, the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) is planning to replicate it in other states too.
Informing this to reporters here today, LIC South Central Zonal Manager K Ganesh said talks with various state governments, including Andhra Pradesh, were in final stages.
'Bhagyalakshmi', the first of its kind in the country, had been tailored to provide health insurance cover of Rs 25,000 to an insured girl child and scholarship after 10th standard, he said adding that one lakh girl children of families below poverty line would be covered.
A sum of One lakh rupees would be paid in the case of death of the insured child, Rs 75,000 in case of permanent disability and Rs 37,500 in case of partial disability respectively.
Highlighting the performance of the Zone, comprising Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, he said it occupied first position in the country on premium growth by collecting Rs 1,910 crore with growth rate of 76.55 per cent under 23.03 lakh of policies as against the target of 74 lakh policies under Rs 7,654 crore in first premium.
