Moga, Aug 23 (UNI) Police have registered a case against a man, his parents and brother for allegedly torturing and killing his wife for dowry.

The deceased woman, Harjit Kaur's husband Buta Singh, his brother Balwinder Singh and parents Gurcharan Singh and Mohinder Kaur, have been booked by Badhni Kalan police in Moga district under section 302 IPC on the charge of killing her.

Her in-laws had reported to the police yesterday that Harjit Kaur committed suicide by hanging herself with a ceiling fan in the house at Rauke Kalan. However, on preliminary investigation it was found that it was not a case of suicide but of murder, according to police.

Maghar Singh, father of the 22-year-old deceased girl from Mahal village, also lodged a complaint that his daughter was tortured for dowry and was murdered.

Harjit was married to Buta Singh about two-and-half-years ago.

She was an MA whereas her husband Buta Singh was a matriculate.

Since her marriage, her in-laws were harassing her for more dowry and were demanding a car, Maghar Singh alleged.

The police have rounded up all the four and was waiting for the postmortem report which will be conducted by the Moga civil hospital doctors today.
