Headmaster, militant killed in NC Hills in Assam

Haflong, Aug 23 (UNI) A local high school headmaster was shot dead in front of the school building near the headquarters town of Haflong in North Cachar Hills district of Assam, in broad daylight today.

Police said Mannan Hussain, the headmaster of Dibarai High School, was called out of the school at about 1130 hrs by some unknown persons. They shot him on the forehead, killing him on the spot.

The school is situated about one km from the Haflong police station.

Family sources failed to confirm any possible cause of the killing. Though Police suspected insurgents to be behind it, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

In another incident at about the same time, a militant of the Dima Halom Daogah (Jewel faction) was killed in an encounter near Umrangso in the same district.

Details of the encounter were awaited.
