HC stays arrest of alleged associated of SP

Allahabad, Aug 23 (UNI) Allahabad High Court today stayed the arrest of Hazi Parvez Ahmad, an alleged associate of Samajwadi Party's Member of Parliament Atiq Ahmad in the case relating to purchase of land in 'Mak town' under Kareli police station, Allahabad.

The bench comprising Justices K S Rakhra and S K Jain passed this order on a writ petition filed by Ahmad seeking stay of his arrest in connection with a FIR lodged against former SP MLA Mohd Ashraf Azim and Mohammad Abbas.

Appearing for the petitioner, S M A Kazmi pointed out that the petitioner was neither vender nor vendee and nor a witness on the sale deed allegedly executed by the other co-accused with the complainant.

The allegation against the co-accused were that after purchasing the land for 'Mak Town' eliminated a pre-existing canal.

The FIR against the other co-accused was lodged on July 3, 2007 at police station Kareli, Allahabad.

Staying the petitioner's arrest, the court has asked the Uttar Pradesh government to file a counter affidavit in this case on September 10, 2007.
