Haryana: Lifetime Achievement Award for eminent writer

Chandigarh, Aug 23 (UNI) The Haryana government has decided to confer Lifetime Achievement Award on an eminent litterateur for outstanding contribution in the promotion of Hindi literature.

The award amounting to Rs two lakh would be given on the Haryana Day on November 1, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said during a function organised by the Haryana Sahitya Akademi to felicitate eminent writers.

Several litterateurs were honoured at the function for their work during the year 2006-07.

"Sur Samman" was conferred on Dr Hemraj Nirmam. The award carried an amount of Rs one lakh besides a shawl and a memento.

Haryana Gaurav Samman, carrying a cash award of Rs 51,000, was given to Mr Om Prakash.

Babu Balmukand Gupt Award for Hindi Literature was given to Dr Yashpal Vaid of Ambala. Mr Bharatbhushan Sanghiwal Sanghi was conferred Pandit Lakhmichand Purskar for Hindi Language, Haryanvi Folk Language and Sanskrit Language and Mr Rohit Yadav was presented with Babu Balmukand Gupt Award for his contribution in Hindi Journalism. All of them were given a cash prize of Rs 50,000 each.

Other litterateurs honoured on the occasion included Mrs Kamal Kapoor, Mr Gyan Prakash Vivek, Mr Shivanand Malik, Dr Anil Savera, Mr Deepchand Nirmohi and Mr Madan Gopal Shastri who were given a cash award of Rs 21,000.

Mr Anil Kumar Sharma, Mrs Manjit Sharma, Dr Usha Aggarwal of Kurkshetra and Mr Niwas Vats were also awarded for their literary works.
