Fake encounter case: Amin's remand hearing deferred till Aug 27

Ahmedabad, Aug 23 (UNI) A local court has further deferred the hearing of an application moved by CID (Gujarat) seeking remand of Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) Superintendent of Police N K Amin for his alleged involvement in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case till August 27.

City sessions court judge P P Bhatt has set further hearing of the case on August 27 in view of the partial hearing today.

Lawyers Sudhir Nanavati and Mitesh Amin, who appeared for Amin, argued that their client should not be sent to police remand as the chargesheet has already been filed and investigations completed by the investigating agency.

Adv V P Atre, appearing for the Gujarat Government, pleaded that Amin should be sent in police remand as his interrogation could reveal important details of the case. Besides, the apex court has also expressed the opinion that the ATS officer should be questioned.

The CID Crime had sought the remand of Amin as he was sent to judicial custody by judge Bhatt on August 17 as his another bail application is pending for hearing before the Supreme Court.

Amin had surrendered before the local court on August 16 after his earlier anticipatory bail was rejected by the Supreme Court on August 13.

Amin's first anticipatory application was rejected by the apex court following an appeal filed by the Gujarat Government. The State Government took this step after the Supreme Court pulled up the government in the case last month.

Amin is among a dozen police officers from Gujarat and Rajasthan who have been charged with murdering Sohrabuddin in a fake encounter.

Three IPS officers and eight others have been arrested in the sensational case in which ATS teams of the two states allegedly murdered Sohrabuddin and eliminated his wife Kausar Bi. The case is now being investigated by CID Crime under the direct supervision of the Supreme Court.
