Cabinet clears Indo-Vietnam Mutual Legal Assistance treaty
New Delhi, Aug 23 (UNI) The Union Cabinet tonight gave its approval to signing of Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty in Criminal Matters between India and Vietnam and also ratification of the treaty.
The treaty will enhance effectiveness of cooperation between the two countries in the field of mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi told mediapersons here.
The treaty would provide the widest measure of mutual legal assistance in connection with investigations, prosecutions and other proceedings related in criminal matters.
Similar treaties on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters have been entered into with Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, Canada, Russian Federation, France, Kyrgystan, Kazhkhstan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, United States of America, South Africa, Bahrain, Thailand, Kuwait, South Korea, Singapore, Belarus, Mauritius and Spain.
The treaty will come into force from the date of exchange of the instruments of ratification, he said.
