Anup Sridhar attains career best in world ranking

Bangalore, Aug 23 (UNI) A sterling performance at Kuala lumpur has pushed ace shuttler Anup Sridhar climb to a carrier best world ranking of 29, the highest to be achieved by any Indian men's Singles player.

Twentyfour year old Anup, a trainee of Tata Padukone Badminton Academy for the last 13 years, jumped eleven places from the previous 40, in the latest ranking list of the World Badminton Federation, following his performance at the World Championships in Kuala Lampur where he reached the quarterfinals scalping Olympic Gold Medalist Taufiq Hidayat of Indonesia and former All England Champion hafiz Hashim of Malaysia, fetching him 6600 points.

The World Championships carry the maximum number of points along with the Olympic Games in the World Badminton Calender and were both rated as Seven star events.

India's ranked two Anup took over the mentle of high ranked in the country from Chetan Anand who currently holds a ranking of 33, Saina Nehwal was the highest ranked Indian Women's Singles Player at 28.

Players were ranked as per the aggregate points scored by them in the last 52-week period. Only their 10 performance were chosen for arriving at this aggregate.

Competition hots up between players as the countdown to find the qualifiers for the Beijing Olympics has already begun. The next major event for Anup would be the Indian Open to be held in Hyderabad scheduled to be held from September five to Nine.
