Alipore court issues NBW against two accused in Oxytown case
Kolkata, Aug 23 (UNI) Alipore district sessions court today issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against two accused who got a breather on a lower court order for benefit of doubt.
A two-judge bench, comprising Justice Amit Talukdar and Justice A K Bhattacharyya, issued the ruling on a petition of state Criminal Investigation Department stating some legal hurdles in rearresting the two.
Earlier the high court also issued a ruling to arrest the two accused after the prosecution and a suriving memeber of the Pal family filed a petition seeking retrial of the case.
In its petition the CID told the court that Lakshmi Narayan Chakraborty and Chandan Das who were acquitted by a lower court for lack of evidence about two months ago were at large.
The high court should issue a non bailable arrest warrant to put the accused behind the bars, it stated.
Chakraborty and Das were charged with poisoning a family of four at Oxytown in southern part of the city about a decade ago.
Chakraborty used to give tuitions to a daughter of the family who also died of poisoning.
UNI
