Absconding ASI nabbed in poppy trafficking, fraud cases

Fatehabad, Aug 23 (UNI) An absconding assistant sub-inspector of police (ASI) wanted in case of cheating and poppy husk trafficking was arrested today, SP Saurabh Singh said here.

The accused Balvinder Singh, along with four other cops was caught red-handed by the IG, Hisar range Y P Singhal on March 25, 2007 while he was replacing poppy husk entrusting to him as case property with rice husk at the local Guru Nanak Pura police post.

While a man who had come to purchase the contraband was nabbed, all the accused cops had managed to flee from the scene.

SP Saurabh Singh said that while the others had later surrendered before the police, Balvinder had been absconding.

A local court had later declared his as proclaimed offender.
