Yajna against Ramsethu demolition at Rameswaram on Aug 26
Coimbatore, Aug 22 (UNI) Warning the Union and Tamil Nadu Governments with dire consequences if it went ahead with the demolition of the historic Ramsethu bridge to make way for the Sethu Samudram shipping canal project, Hindu Munnani leader Rama Gopalan today said a yajna would be organised at Rameswaram on August 26.
Addressing a press conference here, he said over one lakh Lord Ram devotees and seers from across the country would take part in the yajna.
The Rameswaram Ramsethu Protection Movement would create awareness among the public in this regard from September four to 15, Mr Gopalan said, adding that they were protesting the move by seeking divine intervention, staging agitations and fighting legal battles.
He asked that when there were a lot of other options, what was the need to construct a new bridge over it by hurting the sentiments of Hindus.
Perur Adheenam pontiff Marudhachala Adigalar, who was also present, described the Ramsethu bridge as a heritage site. He claimed that of the six project plans developed for the project, four would not affect the mythical bridge, while costing less.
