Three fake vigilance personnel arrested in Patna

Patna, Aug 22 (UNI) A sleuth of the state vigilance bureau today arrested three persons impersonating as vigilance personnel and demanding money from an engineer here.

State vigilance sources said Santosh Kumar Singh, Nageshwar Prasad Kamat and Suresh Prasad Gupta were arrested when they were posing as vigilance officers and demanding Rs five lakh from Dharam Deo Pandey posted in Jharkhand. They said the engineer would face a vigilance inquiry if he failed to pay the money.

The sources said Mr Pandey's son informed the state vigilance bureau following which a team was constituted to nab the impersonators. A trap was laid and the men were called by Mr Pandey's son. They were arrested when they arrived to receive the cash at a pre-determined place.

They would be produced before the special vigilance court of Patna. During the raid at the residences of the impersonators fake letter pads of the state vigilance bureau were recovered.

Revealing their modus operandi, the nabbed persons said they used to get clues about the officers from their staff and give them a part of the extortion amount after successful operation.
