Kottayam, Aug 22 (UNI) Congress Working Committee Member M M Jacob today criticised the Left parties for opposing the nuclear deal and said those opposing the Agreement had their own political agenda.

Addressing newsmen here, he said the BJP was opposing the deal keeping an eye on the forthcoming Gujarat elections.

Others feared the deal would enable India to increase its influence on the South East Asian Countries and affect the interest of China, he claimed.

India's interest should not be allowed to get affected in order to protect the China's interest, he opined.

Under the deal, India can use the nuclear energy for civilian purpose without any restrictions. Further, if it was necessary for the security of the nation, it can be used for military purpose too, he added.

When asked about Nationalist Congress Party Leader K Karunakaran joining the Congress, Mr Jacob said he was of the view that all leaders who left the party should come back before the next election.
