'Saawan': Yesterday, once more!
Lucknow, Aug 22 (UNI) One casualty of the changing times and the fast pace of life has been that the people have moved from finer aspects of culture.
The celebration in the month of 'saawan' in the Hindi hinterland during the days of yore is a ready example.
In the modern times, the tradition of 'jhoolas' has faded in history. The same is the case of the tradition of Hindu girls adorning hands with 'henna' and singing songs during this month.
Singing songs like 'Jhoolna Jhulao aao ri...jhoolna jhulao' have been forgotton by the mordern generation.
70-yr-old Krishna Devi of Malihabad said ''I remember the days, when I was young...I was very fond of designer henna, which I used to apply on my hands. Me and my friends never got tired of swinging 'jhoola'.'' She further laments that now nobody has the time to indulge in these smaller things of life, which one cherishes later.
