Rs one lakh for best student debator on Gandhian philosophy

Srinagar, Aug 22 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced a prize of Rs one lakh each to two students who win the state-level debate on the Gandhian philosophy and its relevance in the 21st century.

The topic of the debate would be ''Gandhian Philosophy of Truth and Non-Violence: Its Relevance in 21st Century'' and the prizes would be given away on the Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.

The second prize for each category would be of Rs 50, 000 while two third prizes of Rs 25,000 each would also be given away.

This was decided at a high-level meeting chaired by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad here last evening.

Mr Azad said the language for the competition on October 2 would be Urdu and Hindi.

About 54 colleges and 1000 schools were expected to take part in the exercise aimed at encouraging students and promoting the Gandhian principles among the young generation.
