Reduce fares on the Gulf sector : Kerala MP
New Delhi, Aug 22 (UNI) A Marxist MP from Kerala today took serious objection to the airline companies hiking the fares on the Gulf Sector to exploit the heavy traffic due to the "Onam festival." Raising the issue in the Lok Sabha during the zero hour, T Sathi Devi alleged that the airline companies had unilaterally hiked the air fares on the Gulf sector without citing any reasons.
She said the enhanced fare would deter the Malayalee workers from visiting their hometown to join their families to celebrate the festival.
''These airlines have played the same tactics during the last Onam season also,'' she complained and impressed upon the Civil Aviation Ministry to direct the airlines to withdraw the enhanced fares on the Gulf sector.
Janata Dal (Secular) member M Sivanna later demanded that the Centre accord the status of classical language to Kannada.
In this context, he pointed out that the state Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy had written to the Prime Minister seeking his intervention in the matter.
