Rajya Sabha adjourned till1 1200 hrs over Sen's comments
New Delhi, Aug 22 (UNI) The reported ''headless chicken'' remarks of Indian Ambasador to US Ronen Sen made in the context of the opponents of the nuclear deal again disrupted Rajya Sabha proceedings today, leading to its adjournment for an hour till 1200 hrs.
As soon as Chairman Hamid Ansari entered the House at 1100 hrs to take up the questions, former external affairs minister and senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha along with Mr Arun Shourie and Mr Venkaiah Naidu of the party stood up and pressed him to allow them to make some points regarding the issue.
The Samajwadi Party members were also soon on their feet in support of their demand.
''It is not possible that anybody can call us any names, and we sit silent,'' Mr Sinha said.
Mr Amar Singh of the SP said the matter needed immediate discussion as it was a question of the dignity of the House.
The Chairman said that he had just had a discussion in his chambers with the members and it had been decided to take up the matter after the Question Hour, so there was no point in pressing for raising the issue immediately.
However, the BJP memers continued to vociferously insist on suspending the Question Hour for sometime.
The Chairman said,'' there are so many members who want to speak on the subject. I have got notices, so I request you to please resume your seats and let the business of the House proceed in order. There will be discussion in the Zero Hour.'' But the members did not listen to him and continued to voice their protests and the demand for immediate discussion, prompting the Chair to declare the House adjourned till 1200 hrs.
