Pratapgarh, Aug 22 (UNI) A CBI team has arrived in Pratapgarh to investigate the alleged harassment of controversial Independent MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiyya during the previous tenure of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati in office.

Former UP Civil and Food Supplies Minister Raja Bhaiyya is MLA from Kunda seat of the district.

In 2002, the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav government had ordered a CB-CID probe in this regard.

Allahabad High Court had ordered a CBI inquiry into the actions, conduct and activities of officers posted at Kunda in 2003, when the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) and other criminal charges were slapped against Raja Bhaiyya and his father during the Mayawati regime.

The order was passed on a writ petition filed by Ram Shiromani and R S Pandey, DIG and DSP respectively posted at Kunda at that time.

However, after fall of the Mayawati government, a case was registered against Pandey and his family members under the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act on November 28, 2003.

Mr Pandey had already been killed in a road mishap near the Allahabad HC, when he was on way for the Ardh Kumbh Mela duty.

The CBI team, which reached yesterday, recorded the statements of people in Manikpur area today.
