Police Lathicharge to disperse agitators staging Rasta Roko

Mysore, Aug 22 (UNI) Police resorted to lathicharge to disperse farmers staging Rasta Roko agitation in protest against the proposed Rs 5000 Crore Chamalapura Thermal Power Plant near here.

Three farmers from Chamalapura village were injured in the lathicharge as more than 100 farmers, including women from chamalapura and neighbouring villages squatted on the Mysore-Bangalore State Highway demanding the government to drop the proposed Plant.

Police canned the agitators led by former Karnataka Minister M Shivanna when they failed to respond to a request to shift the protest to another venue where the permission was granted. The proposed UNI
