Mob attacks police station over detention of truck driver
Lucknow, Aug 22 (UNI) A mob of angry villagers today attacked a police station in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh to protest the ''illegal'' detention of a truck driver.
The mob, including several burqa-clad women attacked the police station in Ganj area and pelted stones at policemen. The police retailated by cane charging the mob. Several policemen also used rifle butts to hit at the protestors.
At least five police personnel and seven protestors were injured in the incident.
Police sources said here that earlier today police had detained a truck driver for hitting a police jeep. To protest the detention, the kin and fellow villagers of the driver attacked the police station.
The pitched battle continued for an hour after which order was restored.
At least four persons, including women, have been arested for assaulting police personnel.
