MGR University to confer Honorary Doctorates

Chennai, Aug 22 (UNI) Eminent Dentist and Dental Council of India President Anil Kohli, popular Kollywood Actor Vijay and acclaimed Director S Shankar will be conferred the Honorary Doctorate by the Dr MGR University here on August 27.

The doctorates would be conferred at the University's 16th Convocation day in which 901 undergraduates and 336 Post Graduates would receive the convocation certificates.

University founder and Chancellor A C Shanmugham told reporters here today that while Dr Kohli, recepient of Padmashri and Padmabhushan awards, was chosen for the award in recognition of his outstanding contributions, Mr Vijay was selected for his various philanthropic activities and guiding youth on the right path through his films.

Mr Shankar was chosen for taking Kollywood films on par with Hollywood through sophisticated technology and highlighting the ills the society was facing through mega films like ''Gentleman'', ''Anniyan'', ''Jeans'', ''Indian'', ''Mudhalvan'', ''Kadhalan'' and ''Sivaji''.
