Legal action on IFFI sponsor Brilliant Entertainment

Panaji, Aug 22 (UNI) Taking serious note of the non-payment of Rs two crore outstanding arrears from Delhi-based Brilliant Entertainment Private Limited, the official sponsor of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI)-2006, has decided to initiate legal action against the defaulter with immediate effect.

The company had remitted only Rs 90 lakh so far and the body had authorised the IFFI nodal agendy Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) to initiate legal action if it failed to clear the dues soon.

The meeting, presided over under the chairmanship of chief minister Digambar Kamat, also decided to confine the activities of this year's IFFI to only films and not peripheral activities, which otherwise used to attract people more.

Disclosing this to mediapersons after the meeting, ESG's Chief Executive officer Ms Nandini Paliwal said the governing board would soon finalise the detailed programme of the festival for the year.

The luxury beach resort of Cidade De Goa, will be the official hotel for the exclusive class of delegates, while the official invitees and jury members will stay at Mariot resort in the city.

The festival will have a four-day digital film workshop in Goa and 11 films will be produced by ''THX'' companay based in the US, out of which one film will be shortlisted for premier screening in IFFI.

The ESG had also decided to purchase special comprehensive soft wares for Rs 24 lakh to facilitate easy registration, booking of seats, travel and other related activities on a permanent basis.

It will also engage itself with at least one film related activity per month like mini documentary festival, environmental festival to generate an additional Rs 6 lakh to Rs 8 lakh per annum.

The meeting had further proposed to penalise people who used to shoot films without permission in the IFFI locations.

Meanwhile, a committee headed by GPCC general secretary Vishnu Wagh had been formed for making the best use of the ESG complex, which remains unused during the days other than the IFFI.
