Lawyers file PIL challenging validity of UP excise
Allahabad, Aug 22 (UNI) The Allahabad High Court advocates have filed a PIL challenging the validity of Uttar Pradesh Excise (settlement of licenses for country liquor and IMFL wholesale) as it created a middleman in trade.
The petition stated that effect of this amended rule was to introduce a middleman between the licence holder and retailers.
The license holders shall now procure the supply to country liquor after payment in advance and the privilege fee and other levies.
Both the HC lawyers Sujeet Kumar and S C Upadhyay have mentioned in the PIL that the new excise policy introduced by the state government in mid-excise year is the result of corruption and also against the law of administrator.
They alleged the whole excise policy and the rules were contrary to law for providing benefit to a private company constituted outside UP only for the purpose of grabbing the wholesale trade of hooch and foreign liquor of the state.
The HC will hear this case on August 24.
