Khandu stresses on exploration of hydro power potential

Itanagar, Aug 22 (UNI) Hydropower potentials needs to be explored and utilised to its maximum, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu said yesterday at the fourth North Eastern Power Coordination Committee (NERPC) meeting.

Official sources quoting Mr Khandu here today said the state was having one of the richest hydropower potential in the region.

Arunachal alone had taken steps to implement about 10,230 MW projects through central public sector undertakings (CPSUs) and more than 9482 MW projects through private power developers, Mr Khandu said adding that there were more projects in the pipeline.

He also said efforts should not be made only for generation of power in the region but the power evacuation facilities should be explored simultaneously to transmit the surplus power to rest of the country.

Stating the Power Grid Corporation of India's capability to build necessary transmission lines to the deficit states, Mr Khandu urged the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) officials and Power Grid to work jointly for planning and development of ultra high capacity transmission lines.
