Inter-univeristy theatre festival in Mysore

Mysore, Aug 22 (UNI) Over 21 Universities will participate in the All India University Theatre Festival to be held in this City of Palaces from September 17 to 30.

Kannada and Culture Minister H S Mahadeva Prasad told newsmen, the festival was being organised by the Karnataka Government in association with the Mysore University and the Karnataka Nataka Academy.

The theatre festival concept would be exended to other universities in the state and conducted every year in different parts of the state.

He said the Kannada and Culture Department would also present awards for outstanding personalities in the fields of dance,folklore, literature, music and theatre on August 28 here.

Mrudangam Mastero Vellore G Ramabhadran of Chennai would be honoured for his contribution to Carnatic music for the year 2006.

The other state level recepients chosen for different awards included Prof V V Ramarathnbam of Mysore for Sri Kanaka Purandara Award and Ms B T Lalitha Nayak for Dhanachintamani Award for her literary works.

Dr Gubbi Veranna Award would be conferred to Ms G V Malathamma and Jakannachari Shilpakala Award to B N Channappacharya. Mr K B Mahadava Rao would receive Shanatala Natya Award.

Janapada Sri Award would be given to Mr Eswarappa Gurappa Angadai of Bagalkote and Varnashilpa Venkatappa Award to B K Hobali of Belgaum.

He said the government would establish a museum in the name of Dr B V Karanth in the city. Dr Karanth's works, books and other article would be displyed there.

His wife Prema Karanth was ready to hand over the necessary documents and other articles for the purpose.

Refrring to the world famous Dasara festivities scheduled to commence on October 12 in Mysore, he said necessary arrangments had already begun for celebrating the festivities in a grand manner this year.

Another meeting of high power committee would be held by this month end to chalk out the programmes, he added.
