Insurance for tsunami victims to be launched : Kerala Minister

Kochi, Aug 22 (UNI) The Kerala Government will launch the health-accident insurance scheme for tsunami-affected families on August 25, Revenue Minister K P Rajendran said today.

Addressing mediapersons here, he said the scheme, 'Tsunami Jan Blma Yojana', was part of the various programmes announced by the Prime Minister for tsunami victims.

The Minister said the scheme would be beneficial for 1,54,000 tsunami-affected families, which were below poverty line in the State.

'' Out of the annual insurance premium of Rs 800, Rs 500 would be paid from the Prime Minister's relief fund and the rest from the Central subsidy,'' he added.

Mr Rajendran said the scheme had been chalked out by the Centre, the State Government and the United India Insurance Company.
