Farmers stage 'rasta roko', police resort to lathicharge
Mysore, Aug 22 (UNI) More than 100 farmers, led by former Karnataka Minister M Shivanna today staged a 'rasta roko' agitation in protest against the proposed Rs 5,000 crore Chamalapura Thermal Power Plant near here, that resulted in police resorting to lathicharge.
Three farmers from Chamalapura village were injured in the lathicharge, including women from Chamalapura and neighbouring villages squatted on Mysore-Bangalore State Highway demanding the government to drop the proposal.
Police caned the agitators when they refused to shift the venue to a place where permission was granted.
