Centre neglecting flood damages in Arunachal: Gao

Itanagar, Aug 22 (UNI) Lok Sabha MP from Arunachal Pradesh Tapir Gao has stressed on the need to activate Disaster Management Act at the central, state and district level to combat the flood problem across the country.

Drawing the Centre's attention on a solution to perennial flood problems, he said the country was losing its natural resources following lack of proper forces to tackle such situations and urged for evaluating and monitoring the disaster management teams. He also alleged that the Centre had neglected Arunachal Pradesh during the floods this year, which affected six districts, the MP questioned on the quantum of relief provided to the flood victims despite Union Home Minister's allocation of Rs 25,000 to each victims.

The Central team di not even bothered to visit the affected districts in Arunachal Pradesh, where entire roads, bridges and other infrastructure were completly washed away in the flood, he added.

He also expressed shock over the fact that Upper Dibang Valley district still remained cut off from the rest of the country and even the essential commodities could not reach the affected areas.
