Acute shortage of life saving drugs in Manipur

Imphal, Aug 22: Manipur is facing shortage of life saving drugs, especially for those affected by HIV/AIDS(PLHA).

The Life Line foundation, MNP+ve, Kripa Foundation and other organisations associated with AIDS have decided to form a task force to ensure medicines were made available soon. The task force will also ensure that the life saving drugs were kept in sufficient numbers by the government.

NGO forum member Vikram said drugs were not available in Manipur due to withdrawal of supply of medicines by pharmaceutical companies from the state. Patients with chronic illnesses like diabetes, cancer, heart diseases and HIV/AIDS, who require regular and constant supply of drugs were worst-affected, he said.

In addition, pregnant women and children, vulnerable to various infections and diseases are deprived of the essential drugs during the delivery process and consequent healthcare.
