Patna, Aug 21 (UNI) The Janata Dal(United) today suspended senior leader and former principal general secretary of Bihar unit Upendra Kushwaha for six years for anti-party activities.

State party sources here said that Mr Kushwaha had been suspended after his reply to the show cause notice was found to be not satisfactory.

Mr Kushwaha, once considered to be a close confidant of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, developed strained relations with him during the past few months following differences on some issues. He had openly alleged that Mr Kumar was surrounded by a coterie of sychophants and not paying heed to those committed to the party ideology.

When contacted, Mr Kushwaha refused to make any comment on his suspension and said he had not yet been officially informed by the party. He, however, said he would announce his future course of action only after officially receiving the communication from the party.

A show cause notice was issued to Mr Kushwaha for his anti-party activities to which he replied two days ago.
