Six terrorists nabbed; revival plans of terror group foiled

Ferozepur, Aug 21 (UNI) A revival effort of a militant outfit in Punjab has been foiled with the arrest of six members of newly-formed 'International Liberation Revolutionary Force', police said today.

SSP D P Singh claimed in a press conference here today that six members of the outfit were arrested by a police party and a cache of weapons, including one Pathani Assault Rifle with 35 cartilages, two Pistols and one Nova vehicle besides a letterhead of 'International Liberation Revolutionary Force', were seized.

Mr Singh informed the reporters that leader of the arrested gang, Athwinder Singh alias Thana alias Dr Gurnam Singh hailing from Barnala district, had been an active member of dreaded militant outfit 'Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) during the black days of terrorism in the state and had been involved in several cases of murder and snatching.

The others arrested have been identified as Harjit Singh, a resident of Rampura Phool, Bikkar Singh of Mehta village in Barnala, Gurwinder Singh of Inna Khera village in Muktsar, Bhupinder Singh of Bhulerian village in Muktsar and Badal Singh, a resident of Thikraywal village in Barnala district, Mr Singh said.

The SSP said the police recently got a tip-off that a newly-raised group owing allegiance to the KLF was planning to commit a sensational crime in the area.

A police party headed by Sub-Inspector Harpal Singh raided a house in Hakumat Singh Wala village under Ghal Khurd police station in this district and nabbed the six member of the gang.

During preliminary interrogation, gang leader Athwinder Singh revealed that during the peak days of terrorism in the state, he had links with KLF and had been behanid the bars in jails in Barnala and Rajasthan.

He also revealed that he was facing trials for involvement in several cases of murder and snatching.

He confessed to motivating his associates to form the new operational group 'International Liberation Revolutionary Force' with an aim to cause disturbance in the state.

The SSP said that Athwinder told police that to get money for strengthening the outfit, they resorted to small-time crime like snatching, looting and kidnapping.

The SSP said investigation of the case was in progress and police expected to recover more arms, ammunition and vehicles.
