Rajnath Singh to attend Telangana Emancipation day

Hyderabad, Aug 21 (UNI) BJP President Rajnath Singh will preside over a public meeting here, organised by his party to commemorate the liberation of the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh on September 17.

Party State General Secretary Dr K Lakshman today said though the entire nation got freedom on August 15, 1947, Telangana got its freedom only on September 17, 1948. The liberation day should be observed by the State Government officially, as was being done in Karnataka and Maharashtra, he said at a press conference.

He said the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre should come out with a Bill under Article three of the Constitution on Telangana in Parliament and assured his party's support to it. Formation of Telangana should not once again be an election issue in 2009, as the Congress and the TRS had promised it in their election manifesto in 2004 itself.
