Punjab launches drive to check the weights and measures

Chandigarh, Aug 21 (UNI) The Punjab Government today launched a special drive to check the weights and measures of all 14250 ration depots involved in the 'Kanak-dal' scheme.

According to an official spokesman Weights and Measures Inspectors have been asked to fan out all over the State to check and certify the weights and measures of each ration depots in the State distributing subsidised wheat and dal to over 14 lakh Blue Card and BPL card holders of the State.

He said that the State government wanted to ensure that every beneficiary got proper quantity and quality of subsidised wheat and dal and any depot found guilty of short measuring would be strictly dealt with and criminal action would be launched against the operator.

The spokesman said that in addition, Food Inspector have been asked to visit every depot to check quality of the stock. All steps have been taken to check pilferage of stock meant of Blue Card holders by unauthorized persons, he added.

The spokesman said that the public was advised to report any complaint regarding quantity and quality of the stock to the area Food Inspector, Weights and Measures Inspector and also to Nodal Officer posted in Special Cell at headquarters of Food and Supplies Department.
