MoU signed betwen Mah Govt and BCIL

Mumbai, Aug 21 (UNI) 'Mega project' status has been awarded by the Maharashtra government to the integrated textile project of Birla cotsyn at Malkapur in Vidarbha region.

Birla Cotsyn (BCIL), a leading company of the Yash Birla group, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra Government, awarding the status here today.

The MoU was signed by Industries Secretary V K Jairath and Yash Birla Group Finance Director P V R Murthy in the presence of Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, Industries Minister Ashok Chavan, Chief Secretary Johny Joseph, Yash Birla Group Chairman Yash Birla and BCIL President and CEO K K Baheti.

The project will have a capacity to manufacture 50,000 meters per day of furnished cloth and in later phases it will include processing of fabric and retail garments and fabric and home textiles.

BCIL has earlier been engaged in cotton ginning, pressing and spinning at its facilities in Khamgaon and Ghatanji. It is presently in the process of implementing an integrated textile project in Malkapur and Khamgaon.

Mr Birla, speaking on the occasion, expressed satisfaction that the Government had granted the status of 'mega project' to the proposed project.

The expansion comprises an increase of 19,040 spindles for the manufacturing of synthetic yarn and 36,000 spindles for the cotton yarn. The project will include manufacturing of open endroster based cotton yarn with an installed capacity of 1,728 rotors and weaving of fabric with 114 looms.

Deshmukh acknowledged the contributions made by BCIL and added that the group, with whom the state has had a long standing relationship, will continue to inspire other players to realize the potential of Maharashtra.
