Mayawati to hold on-the-spot inspection of developmental works

Lucknow, Aug 21 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today expressed satisfaction at the progress of the developmental works in the state, even as she announced holding on-the-spot inspection of the projects from next month, along with a four-tier monthly review.

The CM announced that five villages from each of the 403 assembly constituencies would be taken under Ambedkar Gram Sabha scheme while the pending projects should be completed on a war footing.

''From next month, officials found dragging their feet in carrying out work will be punished,'' she said.

Ms Mayawati, while reviewing the developmental schemes in the state here, directed the officials to launch special drive against power theft, fake medicines and adulterated and spurious food.

''Now the district magistrates and superintendents of police of a particular district would be held responsible if any case of power theft, fake medicines and adulterated food is found in their respective area,'' she said.

Official sources said that the review meeting, which continued for more than seven hours, was attended by all district magistrates, range DIGs, divisional Commissioners, departmental secretaries and principal secretaries, resolved to complete the Ambedkar Gram Sabha project at their earliest.

The CM said from next month she will personally pay surprise visit to the districts to verify the developmental projects while all the secretaries have been alloted districts to do the same on her behalf.

''From September there will be four-tier review of the developmental projects, first by the DM at district level, second by commissioner at divisional level, third by the departmental principal secretaries and lastly by the chief minister secretriate'', she maintained.

The meeting took stock of the ongoing projects of health, education, employment generation, power, infrastructure and social sector.

Sources said during the meeting the officials raised the issue of shortage of doctors in the rural areas even after their appointment on contract basis while the senior officials directed the authorities in the naxalite affected districts to launch socio-economic schemes to benefit the rural poor.

The CM asked the officials to implement the schemes meant for SC/ST, OBCs, minorities and poor among the upper case in true spirit.
